Project Detail
We developed an internal IoT research platform using Raspberry Pi CMIO and CMCDA hardware, structured around a mobile trailer form factor. The prototype explored edge computing and remote sensing use cases including Phase 1 PiWebCam functionality, smart cities monitoring, eHealth data capture, and AgriTech sensor integration.
Challenge
To build hands-on IoT capability across multiple verticals — smart cities, eHealth, and agriculture — without relying on off-the-shelf platforms that don't suit low-connectivity South African deployment contexts.
Solution
We assembled a Raspberry Pi-based modular prototype, iterated on hardware combinations using CMIO and CMCDA compute modules, and validated the mobile trailer form factor for field deployment readiness.
Results
Functional IoT prototype validated across PiWebCam and edge sensing use cases, with R&D learnings feeding into smart cities and AgriTech advisory engagements.
